Fiber Microstructure and Fatigue

چکیده

Strong fibers can fail at low stresses under cyclic loading. This phenomenon, which is called cyclic fatigue, occurs to an unexplained extent only when part (or all) of the fiber is compressed or twisted for some fraction of the strain cycle. Industrial yarns used in rubber, a 2 MMM lb. annual market in which USA fiber producers are highly competitive, must retain a maximum fraction of their initial strength after long term fatigue. The general problem encountered is that as fiber strength or stiffness is increased, resistance to fatigue decreases. Although intrinsic properties of single-ply radial tires temporarily reduced the need for improved fiber fatigue properties, gradual increases in fiber stiffness over the years are once again focussing attention on fatigue.

Effect of Curing Rate on the Microstructure and Macroscopic Properties of Epoxy Fiberglass Composites

Curing rates of an epoxy amine system were varied via different curing cycles, and glass-fiber epoxy composites were prepared using the same protocol, with the aim of investigating the correlation between microstructure and composite properties. It was found that the fast curing cycle resulted in a non-homogenous network, with a larger percentage of a softer phase. Homogenized composite propert...

Effect of Weld Metal Microstructure on the Fatigue and Corrosion-Fatigue Properties of GTA-Welded 304 Stainless Steel

In this research, two different filler metals, ERNiCrMo-3 and ER309L, were used for developing different microstructure, austenite (γ) and austenite and ferrite (γ+δ) in the weld metal and fatigue properties of welded samples were evaluated in the air and sea water environments. Microstructural studies indicated a good agreement between predicted microstructures via schiffler diagram and metall...

Effect of Forging Parameters on Low Cycle Fatigue Behaviour of Al/Basalt Short Fiber Metal Matrix Composites

This paper deals with metal matrix composites (MMCs) of Al 7075 alloy containing different weight percentage (2.5, 5, 7.5, and 10) basalt short fiber reinforcement and unreinforced matrix alloy. The samples were produced by the permanent stir casting technique. The casting ingots were cut into blanks to be forged in single stage and double stage, using MN press and graphite-based lubricant. The...

Fatigue Behavior of Heat Treated 30MSV 6 Vanadium Micro alloyed Steel

‌‌‌Fatigue behavior of a vanadium microalloy steel has been studied in this research. Here, microstructure constituents were considered which essentially are dependent on the heat treatment conditions. The results of high cycle fatigue tests revealed that heat treatment procedure and cooling rates have significant effects on fatigue properties. Optimal heat treatment cycle of the microalloyed s...
